The cup seal is the small rubber piece that controls air flow through the valve.  When the hammer hits it, it opens up the valve letting air through.  With the help of the valve spring, it then closes the valve, sealing it shut.  These can be purchased seperately from the valve, but almost all of the time, the valve comes coupled with a cup seal.
