The sear is the piece of metal in the trigger frame that keeps the hammer cocked back.  It catches the hammer lug, and holds onto it, until the trigger is pulled dropping the sear, letting the hammer lug ride over it.  If you purchase a hinge trigger frame or electro frame, it will come with a sear.  A sliding trigger frame, it wont come with one.
