With so much interest being put into the various hinge triggers these days, its good to see a company trying to breath new life into the good old fashioned sliding triggers.  Extreme Rage has released a new line of accessories titled the Omega Series.  Extreme Rage has taken the trend of adding rollers to the sear one step further, and placed two on the trigger plate as well.  So now we see a kit complete with roller sear, a trigger plate with two rollers across the top, and the springs to boot.

First thing I saw was a very rough finish on the sides of both the trigger plate and sear.  It has always been my thought that smooth pulls come from polished surfaces, which is a quite true statement.  These pieces were far from polished, they felt almost rough.  The sear  featured the roller bearing in the traditional place, the contact point between the sear and the trigger plate.  The Trigger plate was a round hole plate, and had the rollers on the top edge at the corners, to help it slide along the bottom of the body.  The Extreme Rage logo is stamped on both edges of the trigger plate.

When I installed the plate, I immediately realized how smooth it was moving in the frame.  After adjusting the vertical slack screws, I gave it a quick run through.  Despite its rough appearance, the plate slid almost effortlessly through the frame.   The trigger plate seemed to be a bit wider, and so it fit in the frame a bit better, and reduced some of the side to side slack.  After airing up the marker and firing off a couple of shots, the ease and speed was amazing.  Never had a drop in kit made such a noticeable difference.  But this is where my first complaint came.  The trigger portion of the plate, was cut kind of short, so it had a stubby look to it.  This made it a bit difficult to put the trigger shoe in a position that I like (call me crazy, I like my trigger shoe, as low as possible).   After putting that dilemma behind me, I started to play with the new trigger kit.  With the springs provided, it was exactly how I like my triggers, medium weight pull with a snappy release.  I could absolutely haul on this trigger, as could everyone who tried it.  Going from the stock configuration to this kit was a huge benefit, and easily noticeable.

With that being said, the price tag would make me think twice about this product.  The Roller Trigger Assembly carries a MSRP of $89.99, which many people will find hard to stomach.  With more and more pro shops being able to offer good trigger jobs at reasonable prices, it is hard to warrant purchasing a drop in mod for this much.  I know that when I started playing around with configurations, and putting on stock trigger components mixed with the springs from the Extreme Rage kit, the pull was very similar.  It wasn’t quite as good, but they were unmodified parts.  I faced this when I was testing other roller sears on the market as well.  While the pull is better than stock, it is nothing that can’t be achieved with a bit of elbow grease.  While as a drop in part it was extremely nice, but then, for the same (or less money) one could take their marker to a pro shop and come back with a similar trigger pull.  Not only would it be a similar caliber pull, but it would be fully tailored to the individual, which is always a plus.  Another interesting tidbit I found was that after a week or so in my footlocker (along with all of my other paintball gear) the trigger plate actually had a bit of rust on it, where as nothing else in the trunk showed the slightest sign of rust.  Paying $89.99 for a part to have it rust is definitely not kosher in my book.

As I find with most of these roller products, they are very cost prohibitive.  It is just too difficult to produce these products at a cost that makes them viable options for the average player.  For the player that doesn’t have time to take his marker to a pro shop for work, or just doesn’t have one available this is an excellent product.  With absolute minimal effort, you can vastly improve the quality of the trigger pull by just dropping in the kit.  However, don’t be fooled into believing that this product will revolutionize your trigger pull.  You can get the same quality pull, but completely tailored to your tastes for less.  I can honestly only recommend this part to someone who cannot afford to spend the time with their marker in a shop because otherwise there is better out there for the money.
